This daily correspondence between schools she attended and us gives you a glimpse of our daily life. Most parents of typical children do not communicate on daily basis with the teachers. This gives a reader an insight to how important daily communication is for a child with autism.

Kat has attended school since she was 3 years old. These are school notes that were result of correspondence with her parents and her teachers. We have made comments at a later date reflecting back on the impact of these events. Kats School Notes Index

This week the unit is on food - "things we eat". We'll do sorting of food from things we don't eat, object/picture matching, separating good from other categories such as clothing or toys and creative play activities involving pretend shopping for food & pretend cooking activities. We'll also do lots of cooking activities throughout the week such as making a fruit salad, making pretzels and making a vegetable snack.

This week we'll emphasize the Easter theme. We'll do animal identification (finding the rabbit), color recognition & matching with plastic eggs, finding the bunny rabbit's nose & eyes and work on prepositions (putting the bunny on the chair, under the chair) these are some activities you can do at home also.

Overall, nice improvements are seen with responding to name & following direction. She has, though, been doing a lot of inappropriate singing during circle & art activities - it seems harder for her to focus back on the activity when she is singing, but when redirected she is able to focus back on the activity for short periods. We are praising her when she sings appropriately (ie during songtime) but and not encouraging the inappropriate singing during other activities. (we are ignoring the singing & redirecting her). Otherwise, she is doing well - eye contact has improved & she is watching the other children with some attempts to occassionally interact.

D.,

I will be sending home the copy of "Reactive Therapy" when we get back. It was just returned to me today & I didn't have time to copy it. Please list x's that are good for you to come on & I'll try as best as I can to rearrange x's to start some training. Have a great holiday.

Kat tested positive for candida and she is on a special diet. Please give her only what she has in her lunchbox. She can have plain water anytime.

Kat had a pretty good day today considering the length of absence. Good eye contact and did well with following simple commands & responding to name.

This week the unit will focus on animals. Suggested activities for home: 1. Sing songs about animals - show Kat animal pictures before you sing the song. Have her name the animal & then proceed to sing the song (ie BINGO (dog), Old McDonald, etc. ) 2. Show Kat animal pictures, have her name the picture and make a sound like the animal makes; Then show her 2 or 3 animal pictures, you make an animal sound and see if Kat can point to the picture of the animal that makes the sound. 3. Read stories about animals, see if Kat can name or point to the animals in the story.

Since Kat is on such a restrictive diet - we will take your name off of the snack schedule and instead you could supply the snack for just Kat either on a daily or a weekly basis that would be appreciated. Thanks -.
